A notoriously shy bird, there is still much to learn about the fruit dove but one known fact, as their name implies, is that these avian beauties eat fruit and berries. Native to Southeast Asia and Oceania, ornithologists will no doubt be perplexed when this species starts popping up in North America; however, with vibrant colors provided by mother nature and exquisite details enhanced by the artists at Herend, interest in this enigmatic bird will certainly lure it to ...Read more of post

With every figurine, there is the challenge for Herend's painters to honor and herald what the sculptor has accomplished in form. Here, after careful study of the subject in white, section by section, layer by layer, the artist has applied a complex painting style befitting this crested beauty, one of the largest and most memorable forest birds in North America. Alas, even noble birds like the pileated woodpecker can't escape the everyday, such as feeding a pair of very ...Read more of post

Clearly this gorgeous bunny has been eating her veggies because her gray coat is sparkling! Aware that her herbivore diet has made her the prettiest girl in the meadow, she has added to her allure by donning a beautiful floral garland. Usually, her observant eyes would be scanning for predators but, in this case, she is simply taking in all of the admiring glances.

With echoes of caryatids, the draped female figures used as columns in ancient Greek architecture, Herend's sculptor has created a compote supported by three elegant seahorses with draping as well - albeit with a pattern alluding to the intricate armored plates that cover their bodies. Once this piece was given to the painting studio, the artists added to the story by decorating each seahorse in a slightly different fishnet color palette reflecting their maritime home. ...Read more of post

There is beauty to be found even in the dry season on a savanna especially as the sun slowly glides towards the horizon and softly caresses each surface along the way. As it slips out of sight on this day, it sends forth a final burst of purple color as a beautiful denouement. A witness to this journey, the mother and baby elephant seem to be sending a final salute to their celestial companion as their bodies provide a reflective canvas for the shimmering colors around ...Read more of post

An octopus spends most of its solitary life living in a den only emerging at night to hunt for food. While a rock or random crevice is a common choice for a den, this octopus has clearly picked the equivalent of a luxury condo. A conch shell painted in fishnet colors reflective of the aquatic realm as well as pearlized paint and 24k gold accents make for a grand sanctuary.

Only the artistry of Herend could create such fluidity and motion out of a porcelain figurine. With a striking swirling pattern combined with arching legs that were seemingly caught in mid-movement, a complex, active scene arises creating the illusion of an octopus stirring before our eyes as he slithers across the ocean floor. With the addition of beautiful colors pulled directly from the aquatic realm, the mise en scène is complete.
